This “Avenue” relates to the activities that Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life in their community. Particular emphasis is given to helping children, needy families, the aged, the handicapped, and those most in need of assistance. Rotarians strive to promote the ideal of service in their personal, business, and community lives. Community Service Chair:Salvation ArmyEach holiday season, members of our club assist the Salvation Army by ringing the bell in front of K-Mart on Palmetto Park Road. Rotarians, families and friends collect money for the needy in Southern Palm Beach County. For more information contact our Project Chair: Dr. Armand Rossi
Teacher of the Year Awards
For over fifteen years, our club proudly recognizes local teachers through our "Teacher of the Year Award" program. Each school's principal identifies the teacher most deserving of this prestigious honor. At our annual Teacher of the Year Breakfast, these outstanding teachers are presented with plaques and the letter written by their principals. Students who have completed a masters program are eligible to apply to the PhD program at FAU. The Peace Studies Program at Florida Atlantic University is committed to the extensive investigation and understanding of the causes of peace from a multidisciplinary perspective. The Program invites the active participation of students at all academic levels as well as the broader community.
Established in 1999 in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, the Peace Studies Program at Florida Atlantic University was established in 1999 to encourage scholarly cooperation, promote interdisciplinary research and increase opportunities for students to study and understand the complex search for peace.
The program is designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the complexity of peace and the resolution of conflict from an interdisciplinary perspective. It offers students from different primary disciplines the opportunity for reflection on the wide range of issues of peace, cooperation, and justice. The Peace Studies Program offers students a number of opportunities to participate in its activities at various levels of study.
The Peace Studies Program is involved in two types of projects: Peace Studies events and events supported by Peace Studies. Peace Studies events are organized by the Peace Studies Executive Committee. Annual events of this type include the South Florida Model United Nations (SFMUN) simulation and the Peace Studies Conference. Events supported by Peace Studies are those initiated by faculty members, programs, or departments that receive financial support from the Peace Studies program. Events of this type include guest lecturers, courses taught by visiting scholars, film series, conferences, and cultural events. The Peace Studies Program also supports study abroad through its Middle East Study Abroad Scholarship, available to FAU undergraduate and graduate students.
Rotary International World Peace Fellows are leaders promoting national and international cooperation, peace, and the successful resolution of conflict throughout their lives, in their careers, and through service activities. Fellows can earn either a master’s degree in international relations, public administration, sustainable development, peace studies, conflict resolution, or a related field, or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict resolution. Each year, up to 110 Rotary World Peace Fellowships (60 master’s degree fellowships and 50 professional development certificate fellowships) are offered on a competitive basis at seven Rotary Centers, which operate in partnership with eight leading universities (centers offer master’s degree unless noted otherwise):
