Although not a formal "Avenue of Service", we use this title to highlight the youth-related projects that Rotarians support such as RYLA, Rotary sponsored service clubs in the public schools such as Rotaract and Interact, as well as scholarships and The Dictionary Project.

Youth Peace Leaders
Youth Peace Leaders (YPL) is an after-school, storytelling-based club for middle school students with the goals of (1) preventing and managing bullying and other conflicts that lead to school violence, (2) learning to manage conflict in every aspect of life, and (3) promoting inner peace. The goal of the program is for the students to serve as role models, mediators and mentors in their schools and in their communities. This is accomplished in part through the exercise of the imagination. It is said that those who have strong, healthy imaginations can imagine alternatives in their lives—such as alternatives to violence, poverty and failure. For more information contact our Project Chair: Past President Shirley Hirsch
The Dictionary Project is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. The goal of this program is to assist all students in completing the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers by providing students with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. The Dictionary Project gives 95 cents of every dollar donated toward the purchase of dictionaries.
Reading is the most important skill of all. It is the starting point for all the economic and social opportunities this world has to offer. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn. We have made efforts to improve literacy and the quality of life in our community. Over the past three years we have contributed over 1,200 dictionaries to Boca Raton third graders in our local public elementary schools. For more information contact our Project Chair: Past President Tim Sharp
